Property code: OC-L46362

This detached log cabin sits within Killykeen Forest Park on the shores of Lough Oughter in County Cavan, in Ireland's lake district. Surrounded by woodland, water, and wildlife, it makes a peaceful base for couples drawn to the outdoors, with kayaking, fishing, and paddleboarding all available from the lakeshore. The cabin forms part of a development within the Lough Oughter Complex, a designated Special Protection Area and Special Area of Conservation, where red squirrels, pine martens, otters, and over 47 recorded bird species inhabit the forest and shoreline. From the private jetty, boat trips reach the uninhabited Inch Island and the historic Clogh Oughter Castle. A network of forest trails provides gentle walks and more challenging cycling routes, including a scenic 30-mile loop through Belturbet, Miltown, and Killeshandra. The ruins of Drumlane Monastery stand above Lough Derrybrick.

The cabin is arranged around an open-plan living space where the kitchen and sitting area flow together. The kitchen is well equipped for self-catering, with complimentary tea and coffee provided on arrival. Across the room, a wood burner anchors the sitting area alongside comfortable seating and a Smart TV, creating an inviting space to settle into after a day on the water or along the forest trails. Low mood lighting throughout gives the space a relaxed, unhurried feel. From the living area, a door leads into the spacious bedroom, where a super-king-size bed sits alongside a freestanding roll-top bath. The pairing of bed and bath in one room creates an open and indulgent feel that makes the most of the space. The separate shower room contains a shower and WC. Scattered throughout the cabin are books, games, and treats, all adding to the sense that this is a space made for lingering.

A private terrace with a BBQ area provides space for al fresco dining among the trees. Facilities shared with other guests across the development include bicycle hire, kayaking, paddleboarding, boat hire, and fishing from the jetty. The on-site nature spa, shared with other guests, offers hot tubs, Japanese baths, saunas, forest bathing, and therapist-led treatments. A covered outdoor seating area, licensed bar, and shop are also shared with other guests in the development. Private parking is available on-site.
