Property code: OC-L46361

This architect-designed timber loft cabin sits on the shores of Lough Oughter in County Cavan, overlooking the water from a peaceful position within Killykeen Forest Park. Ideal for couples and solo travellers seeking a nature-focused retreat, the cabin is surrounded by forest, lake, and an abundance of wildlife. The intricate network of lakes and rivers across the landscape provides rich opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and paddle boarding, while the forest park features walking trails and cycling routes, including a scenic 30-mile loop through Belturbet, Miltown, and Killeshandra. From the on-site jetty, boats head out to the ruins of Clogh Oughter Castle and the uninhabited Inch Island, both set in the waters of the lough. Drumlane Monastery sits beside Lough Derrybrick (11 miles), and the surrounding woodland and lakeshore are teeming with wildlife, including red squirrels, otters, pine martens, and over 47 recorded bird species.

This split-level cabin is arranged as an open-plan space with generous proportions and a strong sense of design throughout. On the lower level, a voluminous living and dining area opens out, with a wood burner providing a warm focal point and the lake visible through the trees beyond. A Smart TV sits in the living area for quieter moments indoors. Alongside the dining space, the well-equipped kitchen flows naturally into the main living area, creating one connected, sociable ground floor. Carefully chosen textiles and furnishings run throughout, giving the interior a considered, lived-in character that feels personal and comfortable. Stairs lead to the upper floor, where the oversized bedroom suite houses a super-king bed alongside a freestanding roll-top bath positioned to take in the view. The combination of sleeping and bathing in one generous room creates something distinctive and indulgent. A separate shower room with WC completes the interior.

The cabin has a private terrace and an enclosed garden with a BBQ for al fresco dining. Across the wider development, a range of facilities is shared with other guests, including bicycle hire, kayaking, boat hire, paddle boards, fishing, forest trails, and a covered outdoor seating area. On site, a spa shared with other guests offers hot tubs, a Japanese bath, sauna, and therapist-led treatments, with pre-booking recommended and extra charges applicable. A licensed bar and small shop are also available on the development for drinks and essentials. Parking is provided on the development.
