Property code: OC-L46353

This architect-designed timber loft cabin sits within Killykeen Forest Park on the shores of Lough Oughter in County Cavan, looking out across the water from a quiet woodland clearing. Well suited to couples or solo travellers seeking a slower pace among forest and lake, the cabin brings together striking contemporary design and a genuinely wild, waterfront position on the lough's edge. The historic Clogh Oughter Castle stands on an island in the lough itself, reachable by boat, while the ruins of Drumlane Monastery overlook Lough Derrybrick. A network of forest trails winds through the park, offering both gentle walks and more challenging routes, and a 30-mile cycling loop connects the villages of Belturbet, Miltown, and Killeshandra. The surrounding landscape forms part of a designated Special Protection Area and Special Area of Conservation, home to red squirrels, pine martens, otters, and over 47 recorded bird species.

This split-level cabin is arranged over two connected levels, with the social spaces on the lower floor and the bedroom suite above. The ground level opens into a generous open-plan living and dining area with a sense of volume and light. Art, textiles, and a well-stocked collection of books and games give the interior real character and warmth. A wood burner sits at the heart of the living space, and a Smart TV is on hand for quieter evenings. The kitchen leads off the dining area, well set up for self-catering, while doors open out to the private terrace with its view across the lake. The upper level is given over entirely to the oversized bedroom suite, where a super-king-size bed sits alongside a freestanding roll-top bath placed within the room itself, creating a striking centrepiece. Treetops fill the windows, lending the bedroom a treehouse feel. A separate shower room completes the accommodation.

The cabin has its own garden and private terrace, with a BBQ for al fresco dining. Across the wider development, a range of facilities are shared with other guests, including hot tubs, a Japanese bath, sauna, spa treatments, bicycle hire, boat hire, kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. A covered outdoor seating area and a licensed bar are also open to all guests on-site. Private parking is available on-site.
