Waking to lake views is the everyday reality at this three-bedroom lakeside holiday home, set within a Dorset nature reserve development. Just 6.5 miles from the Jurassic Coast, the retreat at Crossways, 6 miles from Dorchester, sleeps six adults and one child. Kayaking and paddleboarding are available on the doorstep, and there is a wood burner here waiting at the end of the day.

The ground floor centres on an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with a wood burner at its heart and bi-folding doors framing the water. A plush sofa faces the view, and the dining table seats the whole party. A WC completes the ground floor. Stairs rise to three bedrooms. The king-size room has an en-suite shower room with WC and looks out over the lake. There is also a twin and a bunk bedroom with a single over a double (the top bunk is suitable for a child only). Both the king-size and the bunk bedroom open onto the first-floor balcony. The family bathroom has a shower over the bath and WC. The decked terrace offers outdoor seating, a BBQ, and a hot tub, with a private jetty leading onto the lake. Shared facilities include a heated outdoor pool, a tennis court and a multi-use games area. There are also woodland climbing and zip lines, plus a playground and a restaurant and pub. There is private parking for one car, with additional spaces at the main car park.

The Jurassic Coast is the main draw, with golden sands of Weymouth Beach 10 miles away and the shingle sweep of Chesil Beach 16 miles from your base. Weymouth itself brings shops and places to eat. From Swanage, 22.5 miles away on the Isle of Purbeck, a heritage railway carries passengers through the countryside to the ruined walls of Corfe Castle.
