There’s walking and cycling almost literally from this complex, with stunning views and lots of wildlife. Get your walking boots on to tackle the Fyrish Monument (11 miles); the rewards are breathtaking panoramic views over the Cromarty Firth. The picturesque town of Alness (3.5 miles) offers good stocking up, shopping and holiday mooching. The coast awaits with sandy beaches at both Shandwick (13 miles) or Dornoch (22 miles) further north. Two distilleries of note are worth a visit if you like whisky: Glenmorangie (13 miles) with its visitor centre, tasting bar and shop as well as tours; and Balblair Distillery (15 miles).
