This Highlands retreat offers luxury accommodation for one couple and up to two dogs in a quirky pod, based on a complex, making the perfect base for outward-bound types to indulge in some walking and cycling in the Scottish countryside, or to explore nearby Highlands sights or even drive sections of the NC500.
Step past the curved exterior and into the surprisingly sleek interior of this cleverly designed space. The open-plan living area works really well, with a charming curved ceiling and contemporary fittings and sharp neutral decor giving it a light and airy feel. Snuggle into the generous sofa, or prepare a feast in the kitchenette to eat at the breakfast bar or out on the deck. The double bedroom and modern shower room are also inside the cabin, towards the back. Outside, accessed from the lounge’s French windows, you can relax on your private, enclosed patio or hop into your hot tub to gaze at the stars by night. While it’s dog-friendly accommodation, dogs must be on a lead and under control outside your immediate private area. You can also use the shared BBQ house on-site, plus there’s private parking for one car.
There’s walking and cycling all around but if you want to tick things off, then you can climb up to Fyrish Monument 11 miles away and enjoy the stunning views of the Cromarty Firth. Or head to the coast, to the sandy swathes of Shandwick Beach (13 miles) or slightly further north at Dornoch (20 miles). For fans of the water of life, anyone can pop into the visitor centre, shop and tasting bar at Glenmorangie Distillery (13 miles), but it’s advised to book for tours and tastings. You have to book a tour in advance at the smaller Balblair Distillery (15 miles).
