Make your escape to this peaceful, off-grid shepherd’s hut, where solo travellers or couples can swap busy lives for lake views and cosy evenings beside the wood burner. Perfectly placed for discovering the Georgian charm of Holt, the sweeping North Norfolk Coast and the tranquil waterways of the Broads, it's an idyllic retreat for reconnecting with nature.
Clad in corrugated iron and with a barrel-shaped roof, the shepherd’s hut is designed in traditional style and has five steps up to its stable door. Inside, with its cheerfully painted tongue-and-groove panelling, artworks, rugs and soft furnishings, it offers an inviting retreat, perfect for switching off – there’s no electricity or Wi-Fi, and limited mobile signal. The open-plan interior centres around a wood burner, and there’s also a kitchenette with a hob and fridge, plus two stools for dining at a fold-down table. There’s an armchair and a cute double bed tucked behind curtains at one end – perfect for long lie-ins and waking up to birdsong. Completing the interior is a convenient, en-suite shower room. Step outside to enjoy the peaceful lakeside setting, where hammocks and deck chairs provide inviting spots from which to watch the wildlife, with a fire pit for indulgent evenings under the stars. On-site parking is available for one car.
For leisurely, scenic walks, the woodland and open heath of Holt Country Park is just a mile away, while the Georgian town of Holt itself is 2 miles away, a must-visit for its elegant architecture and interesting mix of shops, galleries and cafes. The stunning North Norfolk Coast is reachable within around 6 miles, with the Norfolk Broads 20 miles or so away, inviting scenic walks or serene trips on the water.
