This charming retreat in peaceful Bennethead is surrounded by Cumbria’s rolling hills – just the ticket for solo travellers or couples keen for a secluded escape in nature. The property, consisting of two shepherd’s huts joined together, forms part of a development housing two other similar properties. Walkers and cyclists are particularly well placed here, with the scenic lakeside village of Pooley Bridge just 3 miles away, along with the northern tip of Ullswater. Your dog is also welcome to join you.
On arrival, you’ll pass through your private front garden and climb a set of large oak steps up to the double French doors. Inside, the two shepherds’ huts are connected by a hallway, creating a surprisingly spacious place to unwind. To the left is a generous living and dining area with comfortable seating, comfy furnishings, a Smart TV and a wood burner to keep you warm on colder evenings. The kitchen on the right has everything you’ll need for rustling up lazy brunches and romantic dinners to enjoy at the dining table. Continuing through to the second hut, you’ll find a king-size bedroom with charming countryside views and an en-suite shower room with WC. A rear door leads outside. Sunny weather? Start the morning with coffee in the garden seating area, then come evening, cook something tasty on the multi-stove for an al fresco supper. The icing on the cake is the hot tub for taking a long soak. Private parking is available for one car.
When you’re feeling energetic, you can stroll up to the private seated high point for a majestic view along the Ullswater Valley. When it comes to exploring the surrounding area, you’ll find plenty of hiking routes through the breathtaking surrounding scenery. Feeling like a challenge? Glenridding and Patterdale are both less than 10 miles away and provide starting points for an ascent of Helvellyn. For a peaceful day by the water, head to Derwentwater (20 miles), where you can canoe, walk or take a boat cruise while admiring the views. History lovers won’t want to miss Lowther Castle and Gardens (8 miles).
