Grab your morning cuppa and step outside into the salty sea air from this dog-friendly contemporary lodge for six in Wells-next-the-Sea. With the beach just 200 metres away, days can start with sand between your toes before breakfast, followed by a wander through the pinewoods or a stretch of the Norfolk Coast Path. Back at the lodge, the on-site playground and woodland play area give younger guests somewhere to burn off extra energy.
Once the bags are dropped, push back the doors and let the coastal air roll through this neutrally-toned lodge. After a day down at the beach, the lounge becomes a relaxing place to regroup while something simple comes together in the kitchen and snacks are spread across the worktops. If the weather is being kind, take dinner onto the wraparound deck, fire up the BBQ and settle in around the table, with the dog welcome too. As the evening cools, move back indoors for a film beside the coal-effect fire before everyone drifts off to the king-size room or one of the two twin bedrooms. Awake to a soothing bath or refreshing shower.
Pack buckets and spades for Wells Beach, where you can paddle at the shoreline and pick up the Norfolk Coast Path along to Holkham Beach (2.5 miles). While you’re there, pull out your binoculars to spot the spoonbills swooping and, if you’re lucky, seals diving along the coast. When appetites kick in, wander 1.5 miles into Wells-next-the-Sea for ice creams and fish and chips, then swap the seafront for Holkham Hall (3.5 miles), where deer roam the parkland and family events bring the estate to life throughout the year.
