Escape to this glamping pod for a rural retreat for up to four people and two dogs. Set on a holiday park, the quirky shape of the wooden pod makes for a novel experience with lots of peace and quiet and nature all around. It’s a great way to enjoy indoor-outdoor living while on holiday in this beautiful area of Cumbria on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

You’ll climb three small steps up to the covered doorway to this quirky pod, entering the open-plan living area, which has been cleverly designed to make the most of the space. With light wood panelling on the walls and rounded ceiling and a wooden floor, it has a rustic feel but with a pared back simplicity that’s very calming. Underfloor heating keeps things cosy all year round. The double bed is tucked away at the rear of the accommodation, while the dining and lounge area by the kitchen are nearer the doorway, giving easy access to the outdoor space. You’ll have use of a picnic bench just outside, with a stand if you want to bring your own BBQ. You can also park two cars in the parking area on-site.

Kirkby Lonsdale (1 mile) is a pretty town with independent shopping and eateries; it still holds a weekly market selling all sorts including fresh, local produce. Just on the southern outskirts of the town, the Devil’s Bridge crosses the River Lune, while to the north you’ll find the sylvan scene of Ruskin’s View, immortalised in paint by J.M.W. Turner. But, there are cycling and walking paths and trails all around, almost literally from the glamping complex itself. For those looking for slightly more challenging hiking, then Dalton Craggs and Farleton Knott are both within 6 miles.
