There are even more enchanting trails to explore at Slitt Wood, 8 miles away, a former mining area that boasts small waterfalls and the opportunity to spot a variety of wildlife. Keen anglers can enjoy peaceful fishing as the surrounding site has its own stretch of private fishing on the River Wear (a licence is required). Sitting at the heart of Durham's World Heritage Site, tour the magnificent Durham Castle, 22 miles away, before heading into the city centre to enjoy a riverside stroll.
