Set in an idyllic wildflower meadow beside ancient oak trees with views of the Brecon Beacons, Hay Bluff, and the Black Mountains, this picturesque shepherd’s hut offers the perfect romantic retreat for couples. This peacefully secluded spot within the Brecon Beacons is a paradise for keen walkers and cyclists, with numerous country trails starting right from the doorstep. Hikers can explore the stunning landscape of Hay Bluff, 15 miles away, and the Black Mountains, 27 miles away, whilst water sports enthusiasts can hire a rowing boat, kayak, or pedal boat at Llangorse Lake, 5 miles away. Head to the historic market town of Brecon, 5 miles away, to visit its iconic cathedral and wander through a maze of narrow streets lined with Georgian and Jacobean shopfronts. Hay-on-Wye, with its excellent selection of quirky shops, cafes, and restaurants, along with a weekly farmers’ market, can be reached within 14 miles.

Head from the parking area at the bottom of the field up through the pretty meadow to discover this wonderfully peaceful retreat, which consists of three huts. Across the meadow, the first hut you’ll encounter is the charming outdoor sheltered kitchen and dining area, equipped with everything needed to whip up tasty treats while enjoying stunning views across the valley, overlooking the bench and sun loungers perfectly positioned just outside. The second hut houses the washing facilities, including a shower, a separate compost WC, and a sink area. A set of lovely wooden steps leads to the main shepherd’s hut that’s filled with character; country cottage-style decor, a quirky curved ceiling, wooden-clad walls, and a roaring wood burner create a wonderfully peaceful ambience. Take a seat on one of the quaint wooden stools to admire the rolling countryside views or settle onto the sumptuous double bed tucked away at one end of the shepherd’s hut for a well-deserved rest before tomorrow’s adventure.

Outside, soak up your fresh countryside air within the enclosed garden and meadowland surrounding the hut, whether relaxing by the fire pit or dining alfresco on the picnic bench. Before sunset, walk up through the mown pathways in the field above the hut to the bench, perfectly positioned to take in the wonderful views across the Brecon Beacons. We had a lovely long weekend here with exclusive use of the shepherd hut as the bedroom, and two separate kitchen and shower/washing/ toilet huts, all very well designed with plenty of equipment, blankets, high quality bedding, cushions and outdoor seating as well as a gas barbecue. Separate fire pit with wood provided and access to a hot shower. TRead morehe hosts Liz and Malcolm were very welcoming and showed us around the site at the start, then left us alone to enjoy the tranquility in our own private field that was not overlooked by their home. They have created a beautiful space with expansive views over the Brecons and Black Mountains. The huts were placed so guests could enjoy the scenery from different viewpoints. The site was lined with oak and other large trees giving shade and shelter. It was a very pretty location and exceeded our expectations. We look forward to returning. Hide
