Embrace a slower pace of life at this charming shepherd’s hut just for two, which has spectacular rural views and walks from the door. After active days, snuggle up by the wood burner or sit outside, making the most of the BBQ and enjoying the tranquil surroundings and dark, starlit sky.
This delightful retreat is hidden at the end of a lane beyond a private meadow, about 100 metres uphill from the parking area. Full of character, it is in fact three separate, very thoughtfully designed spaces. The cosy main hut (up two steps from the front deck) combines lounging and sleeping, in the form of a pair of inviting armchairs and a raised double bed (with storage beneath), all warmed by a wood burner. Attractive artworks and pretty soft furnishings make this a welcoming home from home. Just a few steps away, the separate cooking and dining area includes a gas hob and a cool box, making it easy to prepare simple meals using local ingredients. Nearby, a separate washroom provides a shower and a chemical WC (emptied daily for guests), plus a sink for washing up after meals. Spend sunny afternoons or warm evenings on the deck, which has outdoor dining furniture and a BBQ, or wander through the meadow, home to hens, goats and miniature donkeys. Private parking for two cars is available at the foot of the hill. Please note that there is no TV or Wi-Fi, making this an ideal destination for a digital detox.
After spending the day roaming the delightful countryside that surrounds the hut, the nearest pub is less than half a mile from home. The quirky town of Totnes is just 3.5 miles away, where you’ll find independent shops, places to eat and a well-preserved example of a Norman castle.
