Curlew - Bowes

A lovely location on the edge of the village of Bowes, with a gorgeous countryside view and starry sky at night. The hot tub was a nice treat and the lodge itself (Curlew) was roomy and had everything we needed. A modern bathroom and spacious living areas. All spotlessly clean and with friendly hosts as well. Property was exactly as shown in photographs, lovely, clean and tidy. Excellent facilities with a file and welcome information, everything that was needed for our stay. Very friendly hosts. Would definitely stay again.

Gorgeous chalet, pretty huge by comparison to some we've stayed in. Very well equipped, everything that was needed plus a few things we'd forgotten! Lovely views and even in the rain some nice walks nearby. Fab hot tub. Lovely stay, already recommended to friends.

Exvellent location. Our dog is nervous near and on fireworks night. We did not hear a sound, perfect. Really friendly and helpful hosts. Delightful wood cabin with lots to do around the area. Warm, clean and comfortable. Added bonus of hot tub. Will definately booking a return visit.

Absolutely lovely place to stay at and we definitely plan to return for another break. The views are incredible. The place is close to the A66 and we were worried about some of the reviews about noise. It was not a problem at all, you cant hear the traffic from the hot tub and you cant hear the traffic from inside the property. There are lots of goRead moreod walks from the doorstep and plenty of walks a short drive away. The pub in Bowes is lovely, the sort of place where you turn up as a customer and leave a few hours later as a friend. Hide

Very clean and cosy cabin with state of the art hot tub amazing views and scenery. Friendly hosts and stones throw away from amazing Barnard castle.

This is an impressive modern wooden bungalow. It's too good to call a chalet. The design and construction keeps it warm in Autumn and cool in Summer. Comfy King-size bed. and all the modern conveniences. A ten minute drive to Barnard Castle and the shops. There is both a Morrisons and a Lidl. Ideally located for the attractions in the area. BRead moreowlees Visitor Centre, Low Force, High Force, Cow Green reservoir, Raby Castle. Bowes Castle, Barnard Castle and nearby Locomotion (Free rail Museum) at Shildon. Lots of walking, even along the old rail network. A really enjoyable holiday. As a tip, bring your binoculars; there is an abundance of wildlife to be seen from the patio. Hide

The owners Sue and Chris are very welcoming who met us on arrival gave us the keys and showed us round the lodge and how to operate the hot tub. The lodge and hot tub were immaculate and everything you needed for your stay was available. The outside area is perfect if youre bringing your pooch, very private and secure so the door leading onto the vRead moreeranda can be left open for your dog to wonder safely. The hot tub had an issue with loosing water, I contacted Chris quite late in the evening and he came early next morning and had it up and running again without us losing out on its use. I would highly recommend staying and well definitely be back, thanks a bunch. Hide

Had a wonderful 3 night stay. The lodge was very clean and equipped with everything we needed. I couldnt believe it was a dog friendly place as it was spotless and had no trace or smell of other peoples dogs. The owners were very welcoming and are so lucky to have such a beautiful place with great views. Where do we start. We arrived just after check in time, having made contact with the owners to introduce ourselves a couple of days earlier. It was a warm and friendly welcome. They showed us round the cabin and where everything was. They really had thought of everything :) The cabin was perfect. Views are stunning and it was so peaceful. The kiRead moretchen is well equipped, the shower is lovely and warm and it was just a really cosy place to be. We were lucky enough to have great weather - sitting for breakfast on the deck was a highlight for me! Hot-tub was also amazing as well - always checked each day for us and ready to just climb in whenever we wanted to. Lovely! In the village, there is a pub which serves food (although we didn't use it), a weekly arrival of a fish and chip van and a cake/bakery shed. A short walk to Bowes castle was lovely in the morning and with Barnard Castle being 10 mins away, there were plenty of places to grab a few bits of shopping or treat ourselves to a meal / coffee and cake! Some lovely local gift/boutiques as well. A trip to High Force is also thoroughly recommended. A huge thank you to Chris and Sue for all their hard work in running these cabins.
